Warm wishes- Diwali!!!

Heya!!!

Its been a long time since I got continuous holidays... Yayyy!!! I have 5 days of official holidays coming up next week. Apart from studies ofcourse I will be crafting too. I have a small tutorial planned for my decoupage quilled earring version 2. I will be doing it mostly in 2 parts. This should be up by this month end.

Now coming onto the challenge we have for you at Indian Craft room. This times theme is Diwali+ sketch. Your creations need to be diwali oriented and you will have to follow the sketch that is provided by the Design team. This was a tough nut for me to crack coz I haven't tried my hands ever at making cards according to the sketch. There was some brainstorming that went on for this particular one.

So here's the sketch you have to work with.

I always wanted to try my hands at shaker cards and I finally did so. 

This is my design team inspiration for Indian craft room challenge this fortnight.

Base card: I used Neenah solar white cardstock for the card base. Colored it using spiced marmalade Tim Holtz distress inks. Ran my double sided tissue tape runner horizontally to create stripes. Then stuck deco foil from iCratfs to the tape. I alternated between silver and gold colour deco foil.

Shaker panel- Coloured it using Fossiled amber and highlighted using abandoned coral. cut out a circle in the center and attached acetate sheet to the back side of the panel. Build up space for the sequins to move in by using 3M double sided thick tape. Using Versamark embossing ink to stamp medallions in random fashion the panel and dusted it with gold mica powder which was then set using water. As the distress inks reactivate with water the panel has a distinct pattern that is formed!!!

I kept the focus point as a diya that is stuck on the acetate. The diya is made from paper piecing.

The sentiment is printed on my printer.

For a New beginning!!!

Hi everyone...

Its surely been a long time since I posted anything on my blog. I  started my Post-graduate studies in 2014 and have been quite a bit occupied with them. I do try to squeeze in time to craft, as its my stress buster. I have been doing  a lot of trials off late and learning a lot of crafty stuff from fellow crafters. I should really be thankful to FB for connecting like minded ppl :)
A project that I am sharing today is something that I have done for a friend of mine who got married recently. She wanted to gift her better half and turned to me for ideas. She was really loved the last layout I had made. In case you want to have a look at that you can check it out here.

So here's what I created for my friend. A mixed media layout. This is a picture loaded post :P

I will try and sum up the process here as much as I can... It started off as blank chipboard of 12x12inch size. Glued down white cardstock and used the awesome new Tim Holtz distress colours of Jan 2015 (Cracked Pistachio) and Feb 2015 (Abandoned Coral) to colour the white cardstock. By this point I had decide to use 2 different pattern papers from my stack and give them an aged look using the distressing tool and Vintage photo distress ink by Tim Holtz. 

After that added some texture using texture paste and stencils, laces, stamps, chipboard and metal embelishments. The metal gears are all coloured using viva decor pastes. For the chipboard gears (black ones) I used clear rock candy crackle paint by timholtz. 

The photomat is a 5x7 inch canvas which is coloured using viva decor pastes. The chipboard flourish, the laces and the flowers are all highlighted using silver and gold viva decor pastes. 

To add in the names and wordings used white cardstock and the same colours of distress inks and used fiskars and scrappy cat alphabet stamps. 

To end it all up I used various stamps to add some more definition.
